# Projects

> Organize monitors, incidents and status pages into projects

A project groups monitors and incidents inside your organization, for example one project per product or environment. Everyone in the organization keeps the access given by their [role](/account/team-and-roles). Projects organize your work and do not restrict who can see it.

## Create a project

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Projects tab">
    Click **Settings** in the sidebar, then select the **Projects** tab.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create the project">
    Click **Create Project**. Enter a **Project Name** (up to 255 characters, for example `Production` or `Customer Portal`) and an optional **Description**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Create Project** in the dialog. A **Project created** message appears.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Use the edit action on a project row to rename it or change its description, then click **Save Changes**.

## Switch projects

The project switcher in the dashboard shows your current project and lists the others. Select a project to switch. Monitors, incidents and status pages you see belong to the selected project. Your default project is marked with a **Default** badge.

## Delete a project

Use the delete action on the project row, then confirm. Deletion is permanent.

A project cannot be deleted when:

* It is your only project.
* It is your default project.
* It still contains monitors or incidents. Move or delete them first.

## Who can manage projects

Owners and admins can create, edit and delete projects. Other roles see the list.
